Automakers unify the hydrogen engine

Honda, General Motors and BMW had a Tokyo meeting, at which agreed to work together to create a prototype of a serial engine to hydrogen fuel cells, according to Forbes, with reference to agency AFX news. This type of engine is considered promising, but its current value and the degree of security do not yet allow its use in production models. Cars with an engine on hydrogen fuel cells (fuel-cell vehicle, FCV) are available so far in the form of very expensive (about one million dollars per car) unit prototypes. It is still not solved completely the problem of safety storage tank for liquid hydrogen - given that the gas becomes liquid at minus 250 degrees Celsius, the possibility of any leakage is a significant risk. At the meeting the companies discussed this issue and the question of common standards for the FCV-site engines. Earlier this year, GM has already held talks with Toyota about a joint venture to meet these challenges, but the parties have not agreed to. In hydrogen fuel cell uses the reaction of hydrogen with oxygen to extract electricity, which already operates direct motor vehicle. This type of engine is very attractive because it does not cause any harm to the environment - as an ordinary exhaust released water vapor.
